There is not anything or anybody that can forgive us. Therefore, there is not any possibility of our ever being forgiven except under one condition, and that is when there is no possibility of the offense being repeated. In other words, no matter what
the offense may have been, as long as there is the potentiality within us of its being repeated, we are not wholly forgiven. (...) That is the true idea of forgiveness. There really is no God to forgive. When the state of consciousness that could be guilty
of resentment, anger, jealousy, malice, or whatever it may have been "dies," there not only is nothing to forgive, and nobody to forgive.
